Isko orders compliance with law on discounts to national athletes, coaches and trainers

December 23, 2019

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has directed all business owners operating in the city to comply with the law which grants 20 percent discount to all qualified national athletes, coaches, and trainers of the country.

Upon Moreno’s order, the Bureau of Permits of the Manila local government unit directed in a letter all business owners, administrators and operators in the city to follow the Republic Act No. 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act of 2001.

“Please be informed that all business owners/administrators/operators in the city of Manila are directed to follow the above stated R.A. 10699 which grants a 20 percent discount to all qualified national athletes, coaches and trainers in the country,” the letter read.

Moreno’s order came after Wushu star and Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Agatha Wong expressed hope, in a Twitter post on Saturday evening, to “make R.A. 10699 on the national athlete’s discount benefits an imposed and required law to abide by.”

She added that it got “annoying to keep having to explain to managers that this kind of benefit actually exists and some are even doubtful.”

Under the law, any person who violates the provisions shall suffer various penalties, including fine and imprisonment.
