DITO Telecommunity Corp., the country’s third telco player, has earmarked P20.5 billion over next five years for the construction of a data center in Clark, Pampanga.
A joint venture between Udenna Corp. and China Telecom, DITO has entered into an agreement to sublease an eight-hectare property in Clark Global City for its planned data center.
Designed after Google’s campus-style headquarters, DITO Telecommunity Data Center will house operational departments, network operations center, servecall center, and regional Center. It will also serve as the hub for DITO’s R&D in the telecommunications space.
“This is a clear indication of our commitment to provide world-class telecommunications services that the Filipinos deserve and to continue to prime Clark Global City with quality locators,’’ said Dennis Uy, chairman of DITO and Udenna.
The project will create a total of 4,500 new jobs over the five-year period, of which 800 will be hired in the first year.
For the first year alone, DITO is spending P13.6 billion.
DITO aims to improve the telco sector by by increasing basic internet speed to 55 mbps to cover more than 80 percent of the country’s population. It has committed to invest P257 billion over a five-year period.
